EVENT PREP/INFO
BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
PURCHASE TRACK INSURANCE
We highly recommend purchasing track insurance before the event to protect yourself and your vehicle. Track insurance offers peace of mind in case of unforeseen incidents, ensuring you're covered for any potential damages while on the track.
"HPDE coverage protects your car from the time you enter the grounds of a track to the time you leave. Also called track car insurance or track day insurance, HPDE insurance lets you participate in motorsports events while protecting your investment. Getting coverage for your daily driver or your dedicated track car is fast and easy with Lockton Motorsports."
GET A TECH INSPECTION
Driving on a track puts far greater strain on your car than regular street driving, making it essential to ensure your vehicle is in top condition. Before arriving, address any mechanical issues, replace worn components, and check that all fluids are fresh.
Be sure to have a professional mechanic perform a thorough inspection of your car. This process is typically quick, and is a small investment for your safety and the safety of others on track. Tech inspection forms should be filled out by a qualified mechanic. If you’re an experienced mechanic who works on your own vehicle, self-inspection is also acceptable.
ENSURE YOU HAVE A PROPER HELMET
A Snell-rated helmet is required, SA certifications with the years 2020 or 2025 are accepted. Your helmet must show a Snell 2020 or 2025 sticker under the padding. All other certifications are irrelevant. Both open-face and full-face helmets are acceptable; however, a full-face helmet is required for open-cockpit cars.
For those without a helmet, we offer compliant open-face helmet rentals suitable only for use in closed-cockpit cars. Cost for helmet rental is $25 for our Intro drivers, and $40/day for all other groups.
ENSURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH FUEL
Make sure you have filled your car's fuel tank. Remember to ensure that you have at least ½ a tank of gas before your next driving session. DO NOT go out for a driving session with less than ½ a tank, your car can fuel starve around the corners as your tank gets closer to ¼.
INSTALL CAR NUMBERS
Numbers are required on all cars, they need to be no less than 12" on each side of the car, and 4" number must be installed on the rear of the car. Vinyl numbers have a much cleaner look and ensure that your photos look as great as possible, however, Painters tape can also be used.
REVIEW TRACK FLAGS & TERMINOLOGY
Before arriving at the track, it's helpful to review the track map, flags, and corner stations. This will speed up the process of familiarizing yourself with the track, especially if it's your first time at COTA. Additionally, there are online resources available where you can watch videos of others driving on the track. Be sure to also review the track terminology provided in the PDFs below.
